TESTING ON A LOCAL PC

Applies to: Tipue JS

For testing purposes, we suggest you use the Firefox browser. There are a number of security hurdles when testing with IE.

The IE security model requires a web server to open RSS or XML files.

In Windows XP SP2 all local files and content processed by Internet Explorer 6 and above has additional security applied to it in the Local Machine zone.

In practice, this means that you can't open a local HTML file unless Internet Explorer is convinced it comes from a safe source. There are two steps you can take to allow local content to be accessed.

STEP 1

Change two settings in Internet Explorer.

First select Internet Options from the Tools menu. Click on the Advanced tab. Find the Security section and enable "Allow active content from CDs to run in files on My Computer" and "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer".

STEP 2

Add the following line of code to each HTML file:

This can be any URL. The number specifies the number of characters in the address.

This line should be added after the DOCTYPE declaration, so the start of your HTML should look something like:

Please note that this problem doesn't occur when the files are accessed via a web server or when using browsers other than IE 6 and above with Windows XP SP2 and Vista.
